Lightning Cool the Heat

The Pensacola Lightning beat the Crestview Heat 59-0 in North American Football League (NAFL) action Saturday night.
Lightning quarterbacks Don Rich and Roosevelt Byrd combined to have a perfect night, going 10 for 10 with three TDs. Marcus Lewis, Dustin Cleckler, and Chad Hayes each caught a TD, while Raymond Lymon, Jonathan "Petey" Gardner, and David Gurney all scored on the ground.

Survival of the Fittest Goes to Piranha

Central Penn Piranha defeated the York Razorbacks 21-7With a heat index of around 100 degrees for a 5:00 PM kickoff, the Central Penn Piranha (3-0) and York Razorbacks (2-2) spent just as much time battling the elements as they did each other. The end result was an exhausting 21-7 victory for the Piranha against the first-year Razorbacks.

Despite forcing six turnovers, the Piranha were unable to capitalize on most of them. Couple that with the fact that the Razorbacks committed turnovers on their first four possessions of the game (all first quarter), and that’s why the game was close.

Lawdawgs Regulate Rough Riders

Dakota Lawdawgs Helmet GraphicThe rains opened up on Southeastern South Dakota, forcing the Lawdawgs vs. Rough Riders (4-1) game back almost an hour.  Once the skies mostly cleared up the sun came out and the Lawdawgs offense put the team up 14-0 by the half and held on to win 14-7.

The Lawdawgs spent the rain delay figuring out just who they were going to use at half back.  Ray Wilson was coming of injured reserve after sitting out the past three weeks, and never made it through the opening kick return, succumbing to an ankle injury.  The Lawdawgs were missing James Augustus who rushed for 200 yards last week with family obligations as well as Trey Diggs for the same reason.  Johnny Bentley was showing of his skills 10 miles down the road at the UIF All-Star game.  “We are pretty proud of ourselves.  We made it through a barrage of trash talking and distractions from the Rough Riders, we played through adversity and made the most of it.  Our offensive line played outstanding and Brandon and James stepped up and played huge,” comments Coach Taylor.

Raiders Shutout for First Time Since 2001

Racine Raiders LogoWhen you travel in minor league football, you never quite know what to expect.  One thing is for certain -- no one expected the outcome of Saturday's game between the St. Paul (Minn) Pioneers and the Raiders.

The final outcome was a 35-0 shutout in favor of the Pioneers in St. Paul.  It was the third straight time the Raiders lost in Minnesota.

Got struck? Not this time! Eagles go 12 rounds with Lightning in slugfest

Manson Eagles running back finds some room to run.First things first:  if you want to know the score of the Eagles-Lightning game and no more, it was 27-13 and the Lightning won--no bones about it.  However, if you want to know the story, read on.

Future opponents of the Iowa Lightning take notice:  it's no cliché that the best way to deal with a bully who is bigger, faster, and stronger is to stand up to him and smack him in the mouth--and that's exactly what the Manson Eagles (1-3) did to the Iowa Lightning (2-0) on Saturday, July 12, at the Keith Hart Athletic Complex.  From the opening kickoff to the last play of the game, Manson outplayed and outhustled their opponent from Des Moines...something even several of the Lightning's players admitted to after the contest.
